Christmas thoughts...

I was reading a friends blog the other day and he was talking about Christmas in his particular country. There were no Christmas lights, no caroling, no presents wrapped under any trees, no trees for that matter, no pageants, no nativity scenes, and no "It's a Wonderful Life" on TV. He spoke of how dark (spiritually) it was and how the 25th was just another day.
Our situation here is almost completely different. We have all of the above, yet we too live in a "dark" place. There are nativity scenes everywhere and people speak of Jesus all the time. James 2:19 says, "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that---and shudder." I was reminded that we live in a country that is only .2% evangelized (meaning those that believe the Gospel and have an active relationship with Jesus Christ). I was reminded of the darkness that we live in. Then, through the help of God's Word, I was reminded of "A Great Light!" One truth that jumps from the pages of scripture during Christmas is that Jesus is that "great light." Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people who have walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined." Zechariah prophesied in his song of praise in Luke 1:79 that Jesus would "give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." No matter where you turn in God's Word, you will find that Christmas is about Light!
Christmas has indeed been different this year for the Massengales from the standpoint of traditions and maybe spending time with family (which we all missed). However, the most exciting part for us was celebrating and worshipping the one who came to earth to be that "great light" and we must all never forget what He suffered as the Son of Man on our behalf, the pain and sorrow He went through to provide for us so great a salvation.
